As you look through the car reviews section of this site, you may notice Toyota cars feature more heavily than cars from any other manufacturer.
Why is this?
Well, it could be because I’m a big fan of Toyota! Whilst this is true, I’m also a big fan of a number of other Japanese car manufacturers.
There is another reason and I hope the following will expand on this.
A snapshot of the cars for sale at Japanese car auctions
Last week, I had a look at the used cars available for sale at Japanese car auctions. In total there were 78078 vehicles for sale on the day I checked. The breakdown of market share looked like this:
Hopefully this goes some way to explaining why there are so many Toyotas on this site. It is because they dominate the used car market in Japan!
Toyota dominate the new car market too
It isn’t just the used car market where Toyota dominate. This year, sales of new Toyotas have made up 46 % of the 2.3 million new passenger car sales in Japan. Honda was in 2nd place with 14 % and Nissan in 3rd place with 12 % (sales information from JADA).
I’ve always tried to feature the full range of Japanese car manufacturers on the site and will continue to do so because I feel they all have something different to offer.
I just wanted to explain that if I represent all manufacturers as they are represented on the Japanese secondhand car market, there will be twice as many Toyotas as any other manufacturer.
If you’d like me to feature a particular car, please leave a comment below.
